As Chief Investment Officer of Basis, Mr. Shoyombo leads all aspects of the firm’s investment platform, including sourcing and execution, financial analysis, portfolio management, and reporting. In partnership with the CEO, he shapes and drives Basis’s overall investment strategy, capital formation, asset allocation, and organizational leadership. With over 35 years of experience in commercial real estate financing and investment, Mr. Shoyombo brings a proven track record of strategic insight, disciplined execution, and value creation across market cycles. Before joining Basis, Mr. Shoyombo served as Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer of the Capital Markets Lending Division at CW Capital. As one of four senior executives who built the firm’s lending and investment platform from inception, he played a pivotal role in originating and managing a diverse portfolio of commercial real estate senior and subordinate loans as well as preferred equity investments. He also served on CW Capital’s Investment Committee, providing strategic guidance and credit oversight on major transactions. Prior to CW Capital, Mr. Shoyombo held a senior leadership role at GMAC Commercial Mortgage, where he was responsible for sourcing, underwriting, and structuring complex real estate loans. He also served on the firm’s Investment Committee, contributing to strategic credit decisions and portfolio growth. Before joining GMACCM, Mr. Shoyombo held senior roles at Nomura Asset Capital, the Community Redevelopment Agency of Los Angeles, and Kenneth Michael and Company. In these positions, he played a key role in advancing capital markets initiatives and successfully executed complex and highly structured real estate transactions. Mr. Shoyombo brings deep expertise in real estate financing and investments and is widely recognized as a dynamic player-coach who combines strategic insight with hands-on leadership. Over the course of his career, he has been directly involved in more than $35 billion of real estate transactions encompassing investment sourcing, structuring, underwriting, closing, securitization, and credit oversight across fixed and floating rate loans, mezzanine debt, preferred equity, and structured equity investments. Mr. Shoyombo has been the recipient of numerous industry awards and recognition for excellence in real estate investment and leadership. Mr. Shoyombo earned an MBA in Finance with Honors from the Anderson Graduate School of Management at UCLA. Mr. Shoyombo is actively engaged in civic and community initiatives. He served for many years as Treasurer and Trustee of GGC, a not-for-profit organization based in Jersey City, where he provided financial stewardship and strategic oversight. Passionate about giving back, he actively mentors and advises young professionals in real estate and dedicates time to supporting local charities and community centers that serve underprivileged populations.
